Despite Vietnam's efforts to develop other overseas markets, China still accounts for 80% of total exports. According to Vietnam SGGP News, dragon fruit is Vietnam’s main export fruit product, with annual export sales usually exceeding US$1 billion (approximately RMB 6.459 billion).

According to Vu Ba Phu, director of the Trade Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of industry and trade of Vietnam, although Vietnam's pitaya has entered many overseas markets including China, Thailand and Indonesia, China still accounts for 80% of total exports.
However, the Asia Africa market division, Ministry of industry and trade, said that due to the customs clearance and quarantine tightening of COVID-19, China Vietnam border ports, Vietnam's pitaya and fresh fruit exports to China are facing difficulties.
According to Chinese customs statistics, in the first five months of this year, China's imports of dragon fruit dropped by 21.6% compared with the same period in 2020. The export volume of Vietnamese dragon fruit to China also dropped by 21.6%, and the value of the goods dropped by 21.1%. This shows that China has been reducing imports of agricultural products that can be made in China.
Experts said that in the long run, Vietnam needs to find potential markets as soon as possible to help enterprises establish brands and promote exports. In fact, in recent years, besides China, Vietnam's pitaya has also been exported to New Zealand, Japan, Chile and other countries. Recently, Vietnamese pitaya has also been sold to Australia, India and Pakistan.
