Also in 2018, China has become the world's 9th largest importer of avocados, and traditional avocado suppliers such as Peru, Mexico, Chile and New Zealand have benefited a lot from the Chinese market.
The huge potential released by China has also attracted the attention of South Africa, the world's eighth largest avocado exporter. The country's media "Daily Business " wrote on April 29th: If the South African avocado industry wants to further expand the scale of the industry, the business opportunities in the Chinese consumer market should not be missed.
The annual consumption of avocado in the United States is about 1.14 million tons, even if the annual consumption growth has exceeded the annual production of South Africa.However, considering that Latin American avocado suppliers, led by Mexico, have been working in the U.S. market for many years, their market share is relatively stable and South Africa's competitive advantage is limited.In contrast, as the fastest growing avocado market in the world, China has much room for improvement in the consumption of this fruit.
