
A few days ago, Plant & Food Research and Horticulture New Zealand jointly released an industry report for the previous season. The latest data show that in the year ending June 30, 2020, the total value of New Zealand's fruit, vegetable, flower and wine exports increased by 7%, exceeding New Zealand $10 billion (approximately US$6.6 billion) for the first time.

New Zealand's fruits, vegetables and wine are exported to 128 countries and regions. The top five are continental Europe (US$1.099 billion), Japan (917 million), the United States (864 million), Australia (836 million) and China (784 million). Among them, Asian countries accounted for 42% of total exports, totaling US$2.76 billion. Exports to China have increased from US$100 million in 2010 to US$784 million in 2020. The main products exported are kiwi, apples, frozen peas, wine and cherries.
Last season, New Zealand’s total fresh fruit exports increased by 8%, reaching US$3.7 billion. Mainly kiwis, apples and avocados, accounting for about 95% of total exports. Among them, the total export volume of kiwifruit is the highest, reaching 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. A total of New Zealand kiwis are exported to 51 countries and regions around the world, 65% of which are shipped to Asian countries. China imported 565 million US dollars of New Zealand kiwis last season. New Zealand exports about 400,000 tons of apples each year, for a total of US$900 million. Among them, 34,000 tons were shipped to the Chinese market, totaling approximately 115 million U.S. dollars.
