According to the International Blueberry Organization (IBO) data, Peru exported 78,000 tons of blueberries during the 2018-19 season, which has become the fastest growing market for blueberry exports in the world. Industry stakeholders say Peru is expected to overtake Chile as the world's largest blueberry exporter in the next few years.

Peruvian blueberries have also made remarkable achievements in Asia, especially in China. In just a few years, the export volume of blueberries from Peru to China has increased from 2.5 tons in 2016 to more than 10,000 tons in the 2018/19 season. Peru has become the second largest blueberry exporter to China after Chile. From September 4 to 6 this year, Peru participated as the first partner country in the Asia Fruit Logistica International Fruit and Vegetable Conference. On the spot, Peru reached a total export volume of 180 million US dollars (about 1.276 billion RMB) for fresh fruits and vegetables to the Asian market. In the future, its blueberry industry will take advantage of this opportunity to further grow.

The opportunities and challenges facing Peru's blueberry industry in the future will mainly focus on opening up new markets. According to the market investigation, the quality of blueberries can be improved by the treatment of blueberries after harvesting, so as to increase the sales. The most common post-harvest treatment for blueberries is blueberry sorting.
