On January 27, the highest red rainstorm warning was issued for the Auckland region of New Zealand, with rainfall of up to 249 millimeters in 24 hours. The record rainfall triggered massive flooding in Auckland and the city was put under a state of emergency. Heavy rains then continued to hit northern New Zealand, including flooding and landslides in parts of the Bay of Plenty, affecting local growers.

According to Radio New Zealand (RNZ), New Zealand's avocado export season is nearing its end and will be forced to end early by the heavy rains.
