According to the latest USDA report, Australia's orange production is expected to reach 545,000 tons in the 2024/25 season, an increase of 25,000 tons from the previous season, which is expected to set a new 20-year record! The increase in production is due to expanded plantings and ideal weather conditions. First, dry weather helped with fruit set, followed by ample rainfall for fuller fruit growth and less wind than in previous years for a more perfect fruit surface.

Not only that, but citrus growing costs have remained stable, with ample water supplies and reasonable irrigation costs, giving farmers more confidence to focus on improving fruit quality.
Exports are expected to reach 190,000 tons, up 10,000 tons from the previous year and the third highest on record. Domestic consumption is also up strongly and is expected to reach 170,000 tons, a new record for the previous season. While quantities for processing are down slightly due to improved fresh fruit quality, market feedback is generally positive.
In particular, oranges are performing even better! Driven by the boom in seedless varieties, orange production is expected to reach 225,000 tons in the 2024/25 season, with exports also reaching a record high of 105,000 tons. This growth has been strongly fueled by the commissioning of additional acreage.
